Happy Holidays!

Hill Country Crisis Council is continually blessed by our volunteers and donors.

You allow us to offer safety and hope to individuals escaping a life of physical, emotional and sexual abuse through services at Kids Advocacy Place and our shelter.

Many times, personal experience leads our volunteers and donors to make a difference in a unique and personal way.

One such volunteer had an interesting story, which led she and her husband to remodel the residential bathrooms at the shelter. As a young girl, she listened to her mother tell a story about a mom, her children and the wolf. The wolf was scary and mean, sometimes the children had to hide in the corn patch so the wolf couldn’t find them. Although a scary story, her mother always finished with a great ending. At the time, our volunteer was too young to understand the reality of the story, but as she matured, she realized her mother was one of the children that hid in the corn patch, and unfortunately, her grandfather was the wolf.

The real story does have a good ending. Her mother has lived a full life, accomplishing great things, which included a long marriage and raising successful children.

The daughter came to volunteer at the shelter in 2017 teaching a Bible study. During a discussion with 7 clients, one mentioned that she found peace in crying while she was in the shower, where no one would hear. At that moment, the daughter remembered her mother saying the exact same thing. But isn’t it true? Many of us find solace in our shower when we are experiencing problems or sadness. Many find it very healing. That is when our volunteer recognized her opportunity to help the residents at the shelter. She said, “Every woman needs a beautiful bathroom.”

She and her husband began the plans for the update. After a few months, our residents saw transformed bathrooms. So many times, it is recognizing what will make our residents feel more at home. The most important result is that residents realize that others see their pain in life and are willing to help in any way to brighten their future. They see it through the hard work of our volunteers and donors.

Do you have A Heart for Giving? Only you can make a difference in the journey back to freedom for our clients in the shelter and Kids Advocacy Place. Please give now.

We appreciate you!
