The Red Doors Shelter

When safety can’t wait. The Red Doors offers emergency shelter, compassion, and a safe space to start your healing journey.

About The Red Doors

If you’re in danger or escaping abuse, you deserve a space where you and your family can feel safe. The Red Doors is a pet-friendly, emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. But it’s more than a place to stay. It’s a starting point for healing.

Here, you’re met with compassion, not judgment. You’ll find safety, support, and someone to walk alongside you as you rebuild your life.

What We Help With

You don’t have to go through this alone. At The Red Doors, survivors and families find confidential emergency housing in a safe, supportive environment. Our shelter is pet-friendly, so you never have to choose between your safety and keeping your animals with you.

While staying here, you’ll have access to crisis intervention, emotional support, and trauma-informed care from trained advocates. We also provide practical help with permanent housing, job assistance, and financial education to support stability after shelter. For those involved in the legal system, our team offers advocacy, court accompaniment, and protective order support so your rights and safety are protected.

Whether you’re here for one night or beginning a new chapter, our team will walk alongside you every step of the way.

Recognizing Abuse

Abuse is not always obvious, and it can be confusing for victims. Understanding the patterns and warning signs can help us recognize when someone may be in danger and in need of support.

Warning Signs of Abuse

  • Constantly checking a partner’s phone, email, or social media without permission
  • Extreme jealousy, possessiveness, or attempts to control your time and social life
  • Constant belittling or put-downs that damage confidence and self-worth
  • Explosive tempers, frequent mood swings, or unpredictable aggression
  • Isolation from family and friends, or false accusations designed to manipulate
  • Physical harm, intimidation, or repeated pressure to have sex without consent

If these signs sound familiar, you are not alone. Hill Country Crisis Council provides free and confidential counseling, advocacy, and resources. Call 888-621-0047 anytime.

Sexual Assault and Consent

Consent must always be informed, voluntary, and ongoing. Being asleep, intoxicated, pressured, or unsure means there is no consent. Phrases like “maybe” or “not yet” should always be taken as a no. Consent for one act does not equal consent for all acts.

Child Abuse Warning Signs

  • Unexplained injuries or unconvincing explanations for injuries
  • Sudden changes in behavior such as fear, withdrawal, or aggression
  • Fear of going home or reluctance to be with certain adults
  • Risk-taking behaviors such as drug use or car

What to Expect at The Red Doors

At The Red Doors, you set the pace. Whether your stay is brief or the start of a new chapter, we’re here to walk alongside you with care and compassion.

Arrival & Safety

When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by an advocate who helps you settle in and explains available services. Your safety and confidentiality are the first priority, and you’ll never be asked to share more than you feel comfortable with.

Support During Your Stay

The shelter provides meals, clothing, and basic essentials, along with trauma-informed counseling and emotional support. If you’ve brought children or pets, we’ll make sure their needs are cared for so you can focus on healing.

Planning for the Future

Beyond immediate safety, our team assists with housing, job support, and financial education. We also provide legal advocacy, protective order guidance, and court accompaniment to help you take your next steps with confidence.
